InterVision Storage Solutions: Helping You Optimize Your IT Infrastructure

InterVision's storage solutions help organizations aggressively optimize their IT and Production Infrastructures by reducing overall total cost of ownership, while providing more fluent management architecture.

Storage must be thought of as more than just a commodity. With today’s rapid data capacity growth, application performance needs, astringent application requirements for service availability, and new data retention requirements, administrators must consider the most effective storage solution, as it may pertain to their business needs.

Primary Storage is a premium. This concept is not necessarily attributed to a high budgetary cost. Typically, primary storage is reserved for applications which may demand faster performance, or applications which need to adhere to a higher company defined service level agreement. With a variety of storage configurations, primary storage can be trimmed to only serve the “primary transactions” to disk. Secondary or archival storage should be reserved for applications requiring a lower performance need, and lower SLA.

With a rapid increase in data capacity, tape is no longer a viable backup solution. Corporate compliancy and regulation still dictates the use of tape, however tape backups should be reserved solely for this purpose. A well-defined architecture of storage based snapshots, and a disk-to-disk (D2D) tier, should be implemented. This results in a smaller backup window, and a lower recovery time.

Each storage solution needs to be proven from a cost justification standpoint. An InterVision Architect strives on lowering a company’s TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), and maximization of a company’s ROI. Virtualization and Consolidation are two key factors to this equation.

Tiered Storage

InterVision practices a design philosophy around tiered storage. The diagrams below depict the architecture of proposed designs, with multi-vendor solutions:

  • Tier 0 - Fast SSD architecture for real-time workloads
  • Tier 1 - Hot, primary production data
  • Tier 2 - Near line / Reporting / DW data
  • Tier 3 - VTL / Disk to Disk backup solutions
  • Tier 4 - Archival

Measurement of Storage Vendor Capabilities

InterVision leads with what we believe are the “best of breed” vendors for DAS, NAS, and SAN environments. InterVision works closely with each vendor to design and implement the vendor backed solutions in accordance with industry “best practices”. InterVision utilizes the above criteria to accommodate a solution which lowers the TCO, and maximizes each company’s ROI.
